Burma Star, awarded to Captain Antony Mackenzie-Smith, 100th (Gordon Highlanders) Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery
Copper zinc alloy campaign medal in the form of a six-pointed star. On the obverse, the royal cypher, 'GRI VI', for King George VI, surmounted by a crown, with a circlet inscribed with, 'The Burma Star'. The medal is suspended from a dark blue ribbon with central red stripe and two orange stripes.
The 8th (City of Aberdeen) Battalion Gordon Highlanders converted to an anti-tank artillery regiment in 1941 and were posted to Burma with the 2nd Infantry Division. MacKenzie-Smith won the Military Cross for his actions while commanding a mortar troop of the 100th Anti-Tank Regiment at the Irrawaddy River on 28 January 1945.
The Burma Star was instituted in May 1945 for personnel serving in operations in the Burma Campaign during World War Two (1939-1945) from 11 December 1941 to 2 September 1945.
