L85A1 SA80 5.56 mm rifle with Trilux sight, 1990 (c)
The British Army developed this rifle following service in Northern Ireland and Germany. It is shorter and easier to use in urban areas than its predecessor the Self-Loading Rifle (SLR). Ironically, it has mainly been used in conflicts in open spaces.
