Interior of the drill hall of the 14th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (London Scottish), 59 Buckingham Gate, London, 1909 (c)

Photographic print on album page, 1909 (c).

The original building was designed by John Macvicar Anderson as the headquarters of the 7th (London Scottish) Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps and was opened by the Duke of Cambridge in July 1886. From 1899 to 1901 the All England Open Badminton Championships were held in the drill hall. The court markings are visible in this photograph. The 7th (London Scottish) Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps became the 14th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment (London Scottish) in 1908.

In May 1912 the drill hall was used as the location for the inquiry into the sinking of RMS Titanic.

The hall remained in use with the Territorial Army until 1985 when it was demolished. Much of the interior fittings and structure were relocated into a new drill hall in nearby Horseferry Road.

From an album of 115 photographs with interior and exterior views of Territorial Force Drill Halls, London, December 1909 to March 1910.
