Letter from Edward O'Grady to his brother the 1st Viscount Guillamore, 6 July 1815
The correspondent Edward (Smyth?) O'Grady writes from Dublin to his brother the 1st Viscount Guillamore to say that he had been told Lieutenant Standish O'Grady of the 7th Hussars had been killed at Waterloo (1815), and it was only upon checking his own copy of the Gazette that he discovered this was untrue. He congratulates the viscount of the survival of his son.
From a collection of 45 letters associated with Lieutenant-Colonel Standish O'Grady, later 2nd Viscount Guillamore 1813-1830. These include those written whilst serving as a lieutenant with the 7th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and at Waterloo (1815).
