Officers from the Japanese 28th Army surrender at a designated place east of Abya, in the Sittang area of Burma, 1945

A Staff Officer of the Japanese 28th Army, hands his sword to Lieutenant-Colonel O N Smith, a Gurkha battalion commander. The Japanese party had walked up the railway line from the Sittang River, and halted at a spot previously identified by the British.
