Indian troops repairing a bridge, Burma, 1945
Photograph, World War Two, Far East (1941-1945), 1945.
The difficult and hostile terrain of Burma presented many challenges to the Indian Army's Corps of Indian Engineers. Despite this they forged roads through the jungle, bridged rivers, constructed airfields and cleared Japanese bunkers and mine fields. They thus made a huge contribution to the Allied victory in Burma.
