South Atlantic Medal 1982 with rosette, awarded to Rifleman Ombhakta Gurung, 1st Battalion, 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles

Cupronickel circular campaign medal with the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscription, 'Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fid Def', on the obverse. On the reverse is the Falkland Islands' coat of arms, with the inscription, 'Desire the Right', and a border of a laurel wreath and the words, 'South Atlantic Medal'.

Ombhakta Gurung enlisted in May 1980 in Nepal and joined the 7th Gurkha Rifles as a Regimental Signaller. He served in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Falkland Islands, USA and New Zealand. His battalion embarked for the Falklands on 12 May 1982 for Operation CORPORATE, its primary action being at Mount William. Ombhakta Gurung was discharged on 15 January 1987.
