A platoon of 'A' Company, 4th Battalion, The King's African Rifles, during a route march near Gilgil in the Rift Valley, Kenya, 1956 (c)

The platoon carry full webbing and packs, machetes and rifles. During the 1950s several battalions of the regiment, including the 4th, were actively engaged in operations against the Mau Mau insurgents in Kenya.
