Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Rifle Mk III* .303 inch rifle, 1916
The SMLE Mk III was the standard issue British Army rifle during World War One (1914-1918). The rifle has a ten round magazine that can be quickly loaded using five round chargers. The Mk III* was a simplified version of the weapon, designed to help accelerate production rates. Long-range volley sights, largely redundant in trench warfare, were dispensed with.
