Badge of the Suffolk Regiment embroidered by a convalescing soldier, 1918 (c)
This embroidered badge was made by an unknown patient at Newlands Corner Hospital, near Guilford in Surrey. During World War One hundreds of civilian hospitals, rest homes and country houses were taken over for use by the medical services to deal with the thousands of casualties from the Western Front.
