Convalescing soldiers playing chess in a ward at Sulhampstead House Hospital, Berkshire, 1918 (c)

Sulhampstead House was one of many country private houses converted into hospitals and convalescence homes during World War One (1914-1918). The building is now a Grade II listed building, and currently houses the Thames Valley Police Training College.
