17th Indian Infantry Division, sometimes known as 'The Black Cat Division' due to its formation badge, served throughout World War Two's Burma campaign from 1942 to 1945. It took part in the initial retreat from the Japanese onslaught, the battles around Tiddim, the Battle of Imphal, the crossing of the Irrawaddy, Battle of Meiktila and the final advance on Rangoon.
