Box for model soldier set, Mountain Artillery with Mule Team and Quick Firing Gun set, William Britain Limited, 1908

Cardboard box for William Britain Limited's Box Set No 28. The model soldier set included four mules, a quick firing gun in three pieces, six gunners and a mounted officer.

Made by William Britain Limited, these hollow cast lead alloy model soldiers illustrate how a mountain artillery mule team worked. The special design of gun would be dismantled into separate parts, with the barrel, carriage, wheels, axle and ammunition each being carried by different mules. This meant that artillery could be transported in even the most mountainous terrain, especially on the North-West Frontier of India.
