Photograph, World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943), 1943.

The 4th Indian Division played an important part in the Allied advance north from Tripoli towards Tunisia, and in bringing about the German surrender in North Africa on 12 May 1943. After 7th Indian Infantry Brigade broke through the Axis line at Wadi Akarit on 5-7 April, the enemy fell back 240 km to Enfidaville, where elements of the 4th Indian Division were again successfully engaged.

From a collection of 52 photographs taken and collected by Lt Col J A C Greenwood, 4th Indian Division.
