Horses of the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry pasturing in front of Scarisbrick Hall, Lancashire, August 1914
Photograph, World War One, 1914.
The Yeomanry, like the rest of the Territorial Force, were not obliged to serve overseas, but when asked after the outbreak of war, the vast majority agreed to do so. On mobilisation in August 1914, the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry became part of the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade.
From an album of 83 photographs and two archive items compiled by Trooper James Eckersley, Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry, Britain and Malta, 1914-1919.
