The Keep, Depot Barracks for the Dorsetshire Regiment, Dorchester, 1960 (c)

Photograph, Central Office of Information, 1960 (c).

The imposing Keep, built around 1880, formed part of Dorset's county barracks in Dorchester. The barracks became home to the 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment and the 75th (Stirlingshire) Regiment of Foot and their successor units. While the Army left the site in 1958 the Keep retains its military connections providing a home for a regimental museum for the regiments of Devon and Dorset.

From a collection of 1,536 photographs taken by Central Office of Information of the regiments and corps of British Army, 1950 (c)-1969 (c).
