German hunting knife, 1916
Knives were much more useful for trench fighting than a bayonet on a ri?e. Many German soldiers bought hunting knives like this one. This knife is labelled 'German knife taken at close quarters St Pierre Divion'. St Pierre Divion was captured by the British in one of the final actions of the Battle of the Somme in November 1916.
