Officer's beret with cap badge, 1955 (c)
This was worn by Lieutenant J M Hewson of The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) in Cyrpus. His patrol was ambushed by EOKA and he was wounded in the head. Despite being almost blinded by blood he organised and led an immediate and successful counter-attack, later receiving the Military Cross for his gallantry and leadership. The bullet's exit hole is visible on the beret's left side.
