Tens of thousands of camels were used in Egypt, Palestine and Mesopotamia during World War One, either for supply purposes or to provide mounts for mounted infantry units like the Imperial Camel Corps.
The 15th Indian Division was formed as an infantry division under the command of Major-General Harry Triscott Brooking (1864-1944) and served in Mesopotamia from 1916 until it was disbanded in 1919.
