'Damaged hun pill-box, La Bassee', 1915.

Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1915.

Concrete and brick pill-boxes often linked up the networks of trenches in the German front line. Many were heavily fortified and housed machine-guns and other weapons.
