Formation badge, British Troops Berlin, worn by Captain John Harper-Nelson, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's), 1952 (c)
Circular badge with embroidered red ring on black disc, with title, 'Berlin', above.
This formation badge was adopted shortly after the occupation of the British Zone of Berlin in 1945 by the 7th Armoured Division and attached troops for the Administrative HQ of the British sector. Legend has it that it was used to denote the city of Berlin, encircled by the Soviets occupying East Germany. In 1952, the badge was augmented with 'Berlin' at the top.
