Cabul Medal 1842, awarded to Major James Irving, 1st Regiment of Bengal Cavalry
The Cabul Medal was awarded to officers and men who served with Major-General George Pollock's 'Army of Retribution' during the 1st Afghan War (1838-1842), specifically those who took part in the final capture of the Afghan capital of Kabul in September 1842. Some 12,741 of these medals were awarded of which 3,500 were to Europeans. The rest went to Indian soldiers.
