Side drum, 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment, 1905 (c)-1922 (c)

Made by Hawkes and Son, London and later renovated by George Potter and Company, Aldershot.

The front of the drum is emblazoned with the Regimental motto, 'Virtutis Namurcensis Praemium', which was granted for their role in the Siege of Namur in 1695. This drum does not include the battle honours awarded to the Regiment during the First World War.

The Regiment was disbanded in 1922 on the creation of the Irish Free State.
