Lee Enfield .303 inch bolt action rifle, Mark 1 conversion, 1898
Converted to charger loading by the London Small Arms Company, 1910.
This rifle was issued in 1915 to the 5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment). This was a Territorial Force Battalion which retained these rifles for training, until issued with the newer Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle when they were sent overseas.
This rifle was subsequently relegated for drill purpose only and was marked accordingly.
