This coastal defence artillery at Longues Sur-Mer was part of the Atlantic Wall, the German system of fortifications built along the western coast of Europe and Scandinavia as a defence against an anticipated Allied invasion. The battery was knocked-out by the Allies on D-Day, 6 June 1944.
