Mention in despatch certificate for 30 November 1915 of Second Lieutenant Rupert Hallowes VC, MC, 1 March 1919
Hallowes served with 4th Battalion The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) and was awarded the Military Cross (MC) for bravery during the Battle of Hooge in July 1915. Two months later, Hallowes was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross (VC) following another series of actions at Hooge. In November 1915 he was also mentioned in one of Field Marshal Sir John French's despatches.
