Gift tin of chocolates from Trinidad, Grenada and St Lucia, 1916 (c)
The whole of the Empire and Commonwealth rallied behind Britain when it went to war in August 1914. While millions of men from across the colonies served in the forces, others supported the war effort by providing labour, raw materials, food and supplies.
Gift tins like this were sent from many of the colonies to the soldiers serving in France and Flanders.
