Auxiliary Territorial Service personnel manning anti-aircraft defences, 1940 (c)

Photograph, World War Two, Home Front (1939-1945), 1940 (c).

Members of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) operated search lights and radar equipment. Others staffed anti-aircraft batteries as gunners, range finders and sound detectors.

From a collection of 300 photographs relating to the role played by Auxiliary Territorial Service personnel in anti-aircraft operations.
