Data Telegraphist, Women's Royal Army Corps, 1970-1989 (c)

35 mm slide, 1970-1989 (c).

A woman from the Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC) using a teleprinter.

Members of the WRAC could serve with the British Army as Data Telegraphists. In this role they were typically attached to the Royal Signals. Women from the WRAC were regularly attached to other Corps and units and some of these attachments could last their entire career. Once the WRAC disbanded in 1992 and women were integrated into the rest of the Army, a lot of women permanently transferred into the Corps or unit they had been serving with.
