The inscription continues, 'Junction of Lahore & 9th Divisions - Ghurkas [sic] & K.O.S.Bs... scene is the end of the "Rope Walk" C.T... Telephone lines run on the trench side with coloured tapes of the unit using them, often Artillery batteries. The K.O.S.B. private is hunting for lice in his shirt'.

Three soldiers standing in a trench; a Gurkha corporal and two privates of the King's Own Scottish Borderers; one standing on the fire step, the other inspecting his shirt. The detritus of war lies around the trench, including a trench periscope, kettle and mess tin. An angled mirror is fitted to a stick on the rim of the trench to allow no-man's land and enemy positions to be observed without the risk of being hit by snipers.
