Cap badge, British officer, Federal Regular Army (FRA), Aden, 1961 (c)

Embroidered cloth badge with crossed daggers (jambiya) below a crescent and star, with a yellow scroll below, bearing the inscription in Arabic, 'Peace be with You', on a black ground.

The FRA, an Arab force with British officers, was formed in 1961 from the Aden Protectorate Levies, and was responsible for local defence. During the Aden Emergency (1963-1967) it helped suppress unrest in the Radfan region, but it was increasingly distrusted by British troops after several mutinies led to the deaths of soldiers in Aden city.
