'Ry Station Jerusalem', railway station, Jerusalem, Palestine, 1920
Photograph, Palestine, 1920.
The Jaffa to Jerusalem railway line was completed in 1891 and opened officially in 1892. From the end of World War One (1914-1918) until 1920 the line was used primarily by the British Army. In 1920 the railway was taken over by the civilian company, Palestine Railways, and the British military relinquished control the following year.
