Pozieres is a village near the town of Albert in the Somme region of France. The photograph shows a remembrance service involving soldiers of the 1st Australian Division, commemorating men of the unit killed between July and September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. After the War an obelisk was raised as an official memorial.
