Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, awarded to Sergeant Trevor Hugh Smith, Royal Anglian Regiment, 1991
Medal in the form of a silver rayed star on which is a central gilt medallion with a gilt map of Saudi Arabia superimposed on a silver globe; a circlet with wreath and crown, surmounted by crossed swords and a palm tree; with a scroll below bearing the inscription, 'Liberation of Kuwait', in English and Arabic. The medal is suspended from a ribbon with a broad green band bearing a gold-gilt palm tree and crossed swords (Saudi royal emblems), flanked by black, white and red stripes. The associated medal bar has the same colours with a small badge in the form of a palm tree and crossed swords.
From a medal group including Queen's Gallantry Medal; General Service Medal 1962-2007, with clasp, 'Northern Ireland'; Gulf Medal 1990-91, with clasp, '16 Jan - 28 Feb 1991' and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
Sergeant Trevor Smith received his Queen's Gallantry Medal in February 1991 for gallantry in the Gulf War (1990-1991).
The Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait (Saudi Arabia) was introduced in 1991 and was awarded to coalition service personnel who served in the Gulf War in 1991. As the British Government issued its own campaign medal for the Gulf War British service personnel are not authorised to wear this medal when in uniform.
