Flying coat, Royal Flying Corps, 1917 (c)
This leather coat was worn by Captain Henry Campbell Roderick Owen. Owen served with the Queen's Own Dorset Yeomanry and the Royal Flying Corps.
The open cockpits of aircraft during the First World War (1914-1918) made such coats, along with sweaters, fur-lined boots, helmets, gauntlets, goggles and face masks, indispensable.
