A British camp in Waziristan, 1920 (c)
Photograph by Randolph Bezzant Holmes (1888-1973), North West Frontier, 1920 (c).
This view of a British camp in Waziristan probably depicts part of Major-General Sir Andrew Skeen's Derajat Column. Skeen's advance into the Mahsud heartlands of Waziristan was fiercely resisted and the 12 week long campaign cost him 600 men killed and nearly 1700 wounded.
From an album of 42 photographs most of which are produced by R B Holmes from the series 'With the Derajat Column in Waziristan', 1919-1920. The photographs were collected by Colonel G H Russell of the South Waziristan Scouts.
