Cap badge, other ranks, Light Dragoons, sealed pattern, 1993

Bi-metal badge in the form of a Maltese Cross with regimental initials, 'LD', within a circlet bearing the Latin motto, 'Viret in Aeternum Merebimur' (It Flourishes Forever', surmounted by a crown surmounted by a lion, within a wreath. With OAD standard pattern paper label.

A 'sealed pattern' is a prototype of any item that the British Army issued to soldiers. It provided clothing or equipment suppliers with an example to copy.

The Light Cavalry regiment was formed in 1992. It has since served in several conflicts, including the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Light Dragoons was formed in 1992 by amalgamating the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) and the 15th/19th The King's Royal Hussars.

These regiments and their four predecessor units had all fought as light cavalry. The Light Dragoons continues to operate in this role, specialising in reconnaissance and using Jackal 2 high-mobility vehicles to cover ground quickly.
