Medal commemorating the Duke of Wellington, 1828
White metal commemorative medal by Joseph Davis, Birmingham, with, on the obverse, a portrait bust of the Duke of Wellington facing left, with the maker's name at the bottom edge, 'Jos Davis Birm'. On the reverse, the inscription, 'Born May 1.1769. Entered the Army - 1787 - Field Marshal -1813 - Duke of Wellington - 1814 - Prime Minister 1828.', within an oak and laurel leaf wreath decorated with scrolls bearing some of the Duke's battle honours from the Mysore, Maratha, Peninsular and Napoleonic wars.
The battles commemorated are Seringapatam (1799), Assaye (1803), Talavera (1809). Badajoz (1812), Salamanca (1812)], Vitoria (1813), Toulouse (1814) and Waterloo (1815).
