Medal commemorating Canadian troops who fought at Langemarck in Belgium in 1915
This medal depicts a soldier bayoneting his opponent. The depiction of violent modern warfare was shown more frequently in medals issued in the earlier years of the war than in 1917-1918. By 1918 classical imagery and symbolic figures were usually preferred over direct representations of violence or death.
