Medal group, Lieutenant Georgina Johnstone, Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, Korea (1950-1953)

On the left is the United Nations Korea Medal is a bronze medal with United Nations emblem on the obverse, bar with the title 'Korea'. On the reverse, the inscription, 'For Service in Defence of the Principles of the Charter of the United Nations; suspended on a light blue and white striped ribbon. On the right, the Korea Medal 1950-53 is struck in cupro-nickel, it bears the young Queen Elizabeth II's head on the obverse and on the reverse a depiction of Hercules wrestling with the Hydra, with the word 'Korea' below.

The Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC) was deployed to the Korean War in 1950 to nurse United Nations soldiers in field hospitals, on hospital ships and at Commonwealth Hospitals. In addition to the Korea Medal 1950-53, those who served in the Korean War (1950-1953) were eligible to receive the United Nations Korea Medal. This medal covered the period up to 27 July 1954, so could be awarded alone to personnel who served in Korea after the Armistice in July 1953.
