Message from Major-General Denys Reid for 10th Indian Division's service of thanksgiving to celebrate Victory in Europe, 13 May 1945
The 10th Indian Division served in the Middle East and North Africa before being shipped to Italy in March 1944, where it faced hard fighting northwards through central Italy with the Eighth Army. This involved numerous mountain battles and river crossings before the Allies' final victory.
One of four victory messages from the Commanding Officers of 10th Indian Division, 8th Army, 15th Army Group and Mediterranean Theatre. From a collection of papers relating collected by Lieutenant-Colonel E I V Tuite-Dalton MC, 3rd Gurkha Rifles, 1938-1996.
