Retrieving of supplies dropped by air, 1944 (c)
Photograph, World War Two, Far East, 1944 (c).
Soldiers from 81st West African Division retrieve air-dropped supplies from a river in Burma. The rough terrain and lack of roads made air-supply critical during the campaign. In late 1943 the division's 3rd (West Africa) Brigade was attached to the Chindits and garrisoned air-supplied jungle bases for the raiding columns.
From an album of 36 photographs compiled by Captain E B Mee (later Major), Royal Signals, 81st West African Division, Burma, 1944-1945.
