Troops of 81st West African Division crossing the Kaladan River, Arakan, Burma, 1944

After a series of pitched battles in very difficult terrain, the division crossed the Kaladan River on 4 December 1944. This took place during Indian XV Corps' offensive aimed at clearing the Arakan of Japanese forces.

From an album of 36 photographs compiled by Captain E B Mee (later Major), Royal Signals, 81st West African Division, Burma, 1944-1945.
