Webley Mk VI .455 inch revolver, Captain Robert Grant, Sind Horse and 41st Indian Cavalry, 1915

The Webley was the standard pistol used by British and Commonwealth officers from the 1880s until the 1960s. Captain Robert Grant, a cavalry officer in the Indian Army who served during the First World War, carried this weapon.

Pistols and revolvers were used in hand-to-hand fighting and for personal protection but could also be used to shoot wounded or dying horses, in order to end an animal's suffering.
