French Zouaves bury German dead at Chemin, 1914
Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1914.
The Zouaves were originally recruited from Arab tribes in French North Africa but by 1914 they were a purely French body. They nevertheless retained North African style uniform with baggy trousers, a short vest and jacket and fez.
