Troops of the King's African Rifles on a training exercise in Kenya, 1939 (c)

The King's African Rifles were recruited from Britain's African colonies. Volunteers came from numerous different African tribes and many different religions. They were trained by British officers and British and African NCOs. The soldiers depicted here probably belonged to the 3rd Battalion.
