Smoking set, Staff Sergeant Alfred Deacon, Army Service Corps, 1902 (c)
Smoking set comprising two pipes and two cigar holders in a crocodile-skin covered box, made in Vienna, with moulded recesses and an inscribed silver plaque, 'Presented to Staff Sergt Deacon by WOs and Staff of 31st Company A.S.C.'.
A wood pipe and a meerschaum pipe and two cigar holders; all silver-mounted, by 'H & J' (possibly Hollins and Jacques), and hallmarked Chester 1902/1903.
Alfred Deacon served with the 31st Company, Army Service Corps in South Africa during the Boer War (1899-1902).
