'My bunk at the R.M.C. Sandhurst 1866-67 '
Watercolour sketch by Lieutenant John Fredrick Irwin, 1867 (c).
This watercolour sketch was produced by Irwin during his time at Sandhurst. Although education at the Royal Military College was not compulsory at the time for those who wished to join the Army, it did give them a distinct advantage over those without a military education during their careers.
