M3 Stuart tank of 7th Light Cavalry, 1944 (c)

Photograph, World War Two, Far East, 1944 (c).

Tank warfare in Burma was very different from the great armoured battles in North Africa or Western Europe. Due to the mountains and jungle tanks could only be used in small formations. Despite this, when properly handled, tanks were able to get close to and destroy Japanese bunkers.

From a collection of 48 photographs relating to the Burma campaign.
