Basket-hilted broadsword, 1745 (c)
This sword is reputed to have been carried by Archibald Campbell of Glenlyon who served as an officer in the Atholl Brigade of the Jacobite army during the 2nd Jacobite Rebellion (1745-1746). Weapons such as this were mainly carried by officers. Most rank and file clansmen in the Jacobite army carried a wide variety of swords, daggers, axes, pitchforks and scythes alongside their firelocks.
